Field Notes Japan — Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-08-04
About these terms
These terms govern your use of Field Notes Japan ("the service"), run by NajiMi ("we"). By using the service, you agree to them.
What the service is
Field Notes Japan publishes editorial guides to places in Japan, plus tools to plan a trip around them — saves, visit records, Day Plans, maps, and AI answers. Articles are edited from public sources and may be added, changed, or removed at any time.
Your account
- Accounts are free. Please register accurate information.
- We do not send email. If you forget your password, the recovery code issued at signup is the only way back in. Keep it somewhere safe. If you lose both your password and your recovery code, the account cannot be restored.
- If you are a minor, use the service with a guardian's consent.
Field Pass (paid plan)
- Field Pass is a subscription at ¥680/month, tax included. Payment runs through Stripe and renews monthly.
- You can cancel anytime from your account page. Cancelling stops the next renewal; paid features stay on until the end of the period you already paid for. We do not give prorated refunds.
- What Field Pass includes (AI answers, editors' routes, printable itineraries, Day Plan limits) may change with notice, to keep the service sustainable.
Our content
- Articles, photographs, illustrations, and design belong to us or to their licensors.
- Read, print, and share freely for your own trip. Please do not republish commercially, bulk-collect (scrape) article data, or redistribute it.
Your data
Your saves, visit records, Day Plans, and notes are yours. You can export them (JSON) or delete them from your account page at any time. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
What you must not do
No unauthorized access or deliberate overloading of the service, no using someone else's account, no automated collection of article data, and no use of the service for unlawful purposes.
Travel information disclaimer
We work hard on accuracy, but opening hours, prices, transport, and access change. Always check locally before you go. We are not liable for travel decisions made on the basis of our articles.
AI disclaimer
Ask Aoi's AI answers are machine-generated and can be wrong. Treat them as a starting point, not as grounds for decisions about transport, safety, health, or law.
Changes to the service
We may change, suspend, or end all or part of the service for maintenance or improvement. If we end the service during a paid period, we will tell you how the remaining period is handled.
Account suspension
We may suspend or delete accounts that violate these terms, without prior notice.
Limitation of liability
Except in cases of our willful misconduct or gross negligence, our total liability is capped at the fees you paid us in the three months before the claim.
Changes to these terms
We will announce changes on the service before they take effect, with the date and what changed. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
Law, venue, and language
These terms are governed by Japanese law, with the Tokyo District Court as the agreed court of first instance. The Japanese text of these terms is authoritative; this English text is a courtesy translation.
