teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka

teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka opened on 29 July 2022 inside the Osaka Municipal Nagai Botanical Garden, a working botanical garden that holds approximately 1,200 plant species. After the garden closes for the day, the teamLab installation begins: light artworks placed among real trees, along the lakeside, and across open lawns respond to the surrounding ecosystem — wind speed, plant growth, and the presence of visitors. Unlike teamLab's warehouse-style venues, the experience here is outdoors, and what visitors encounter changes with the season and the weather. Operating hours shift with sunset through the year (roughly 19:15–21:30 in summer, progressively earlier from September). Advance online booking is required — same-day tickets may sell out. Advance tickets start from 1,800 yen for adults.
Background & history
teamLab (established 2001 in Tokyo) creates immersive digital art environments displayed in Japan and internationally. The Osaka Botanical Garden installation, which opened in July 2022, is one of the group's permanent outdoor venues alongside similar installations in Singapore and Macau. Nagai Botanical Garden itself has operated on this site in Higashisumiyoshi Ward since 1974.

- Osaka Metro Midosuji Line
- From Namba Station, take the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line south to Nagai Station (about 10 minutes, ~240 yen). From Exit 3, walk about 10 minutes north to the botanical garden entrance. Total about 20–25 minutes. Trains run frequently, every few minutes.
- Return from Nagai Station
- Walk back south to Nagai Station and take the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line north to Namba or Umeda. The session ends around 21:30; trains run until after midnight.
